M2 Year
USMLE Step 1 Exam
Step 1 is the first standardized exam that is completed on the path to licensure for the practice of unsupervised medicine. An important part of the M2 year is devoted to studying for this exam alongside classes. Classes typically end in April of the second year to allow dedicated study time for the rest of spring, with students usually taking the exam in May.
A program called Testing Wisely has been created at the UMMC SOM to better prepare medical students for Step 1 (and Step 2 CK) and seeks to implement better test-taking strategies throughout the M1-M3 years.
